Prom: what to wear
Tuxedo, suit or dinner jacket, matching your date, and when to come in.
For many, prom is the first tuxedo. Here is how to choose it, and how renting works at San Marko.
Tuxedo, suit or dinner jacket
- A tuxedo: the classic, with satin lapels and a bow tie.
- A dinner jacket: a jacket in a colour, worn with black trousers, to stand apart.
- A suit: for a less formal prom, or one you will wear again.
Velvet looks great in winter, but it's too heavy for a spring prom. Pick a lighter cloth.
Match your date
Bring a photo of the dress. We match the bow tie, tie or vest to it from our colour chart.
When to come in
About a month before prom is good, so your size is reserved. Last minute can still work, depending on what is available. The fitting takes about 30 minutes in our shop.
What is included
The full package: jacket, pants, shirt, bow tie or black tie, cufflinks and studs, and a cummerbund or suspenders. Shoes and a pocket square can be added. Payment is in full at pickup.
